A couple of changes and a Christmas present for you!

Students,

Over break, read something. Anything! Write me an extra credit essay and start out the new semester ahead of the curve.

I'm going to be making a change in my participation point system. I feel like it does help students out and keeps you guys accountable, but for students who are missing a lot of school and trying to make up their work, I think the participation points kind of crush them. I've thought about it and I've decided to go without this coming semester. You will still be accountable for participating in class, just in a different way.

As always, if you miss my class, remember it is your responsibility to find out what you missed, either from a friend or from me.

I am going to keep my late policy. I want you to learn to meet deadlines, to be independent, and to be responsible. I will change one thing about it: one day late will automatically drop 25% rather than 50%, 2 or more days late will continue to be a zero. If you are struggling to meet a deadline and you talk to me before the deadline arrives, I can be very accommodating.

I have had a great time getting to know all of you and I look forward to next year as we learn EVEN MORE! You can anticipate a few novels, more grammar practice, and some personal writing.

Your Christmas present from me is 100% participation for the last 2 weeks of school and 5 bonus points for commenting on this post. Tell me one thing that you have learned this semester in Language Arts and why it is important.

Good luck with your NWEA tests. Have a great Fitness Day on Friday! Enjoy your holiday break!!

With the holiday season, a poem

Holidays
The holiest of all holidays are those
Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;—
The happy days unclouded to their close;
The sudden joys that out of darkness start
As flames from ashes; swift desires that dart
Like swallows singing down each wind that blows!
White as the gleam of a receding sail,
White as a cloud that floats and fades in air,
White as the whitest lily on a stream,
These tender memories are; —a fairy tale
Of some enchanted land we know not where,
But lovely as a landscape in a dream.
