Participation Points

Each student will receive what I mean to be a very easy means of gaining points toward their overall grade. Each day we have school, I grant each student 5 points for participation. This includes coming to class prepared, using journaling and reading time appropriately, adhering to school expectations, and most importantly, just being in class. There are many things in class that can't be replicated for makeup work. Attendance is very important and coming to school everyday is an important job for students to do! Think of it like a paycheck if you like.

In addition, if you do miss class, it is very important that you check with me and other students to see what you missed. If there were notes, perhaps another student will let you copy them. If there were assignments or handouts that you missed, I need to get them to you. If you missed a Friday, you need to makeup the quiz you missed ASAP.

Also, excused absences will ensure that the student receives their points for the day. Excused absences include doctor's notes, school-sponsored extra-curricular obligations (like games), funerals, and things like this. Excused absences are not sick days unless accompanied by a doctor's note.

So far everyone has been doing fairly well with this, but I just want to be sure that you know what easy points you will miss out on if you don't regularly attend class.
